On July 5th, 2016, China Trademark Association (CTA) convened a press conference in Beijing, elaborating the details of 2016 China Trademark Festival (CTF 2016). Mr. Wang Peizhang, Secretary General, Ms. Xiao Yun, Deputy Secretary General, and Ms. Jin Ming, Deputy Mayor of Qunshan, Jiansu Province attended the press conference. Mr. Wang introduced general situation of CTF 2016 to the press, and Ms. Jin also talked about the general information of Qunshan. Journalists from CCTV, China National Radio, People’s Daily, Xinhua News Agency, China Industry and Commerce News, and 20 more media agencies attended the event. Ms. Xiao Yun emceed this press conference.
Mr. Wang pointed out that China, as the biggest trademark owner, has been achieving high growth on trademark applications and registrations, holding the No.1 position for the 15th consecutive years. In 2015, China’s accumulative applications, accumulative registrations, and valid registrations all surpassed ten million. However, in terms of trademark’s contribution to the economic growth, we are still far behind the western countries.
With the approval of State Administration of Industry and Commerce (SAIC), CTF 2016 is to be hosted by CTA and co-sponsored by Suzhou Festivals & Exhibitions Planning Co., Ltd and Kunshan Convention and Exhibition Center. It is to take place in Qunshan, Jiangsu Province, from October 27th to 30th, 2016.
The theme of CTF 2016 is to serve Innovation and Development, and boost Transformation and Upgrading. Activities cover China Trademark Annual Meeting, China Trademark Exposition and other themed activities.
The China Trademark Annual Meeting will include the main forum and a series of sub-forums. The Main Forum is The 3rd China Brand Economy Summit Forum, which will invite officials from SAIC and relevant ministries, scholars and brand experts home and abroad to give keynote speeches on frontier issues, such as trademark & brand policy, how to build global brands, how to lead the economic development through brands,etc. Sub-forums include Forum on Typical Trademark Cases Review, Forum on "Yangtze River Economic Belt" Brand Protection and Development, Forum on Trademark Infringement in OEM, Forum on Trademark Infringement and Risk Control in the Internet, WIPO Roundtable on the Madrid System for Trademark International Registration, Forum on Trademark Logo Design, Forum on Brands in Financial Industry, Trademark Review Oral Hearing (Public Demonstration) by Trademark Review and Adjudication Board(TRAB), Forum on Trademark Examination Practice in China, High Level Forum on Agricultural Product Trademarks and Geographical Indications, Forum on One Belt and One Road Trademark Protection and Development, and Forum on Multinational Corporation Brand Protection. Compared with previous CTF forums, this year, the forums are more focused on brand construction capability of enterprises, brand and trademark protection and overseas safeguarding mechanisms in the implementation of One Belt and One Road strategy, convenience of trademark filing, brand protection in the Internet plus Era, Brand building in financial industry as well as brand building in agricultural products.
In addition, according to Mr. Wang, on the basis of retaining the traditional product exhibitions, this year, CTF will have Brand Culture Exhibition, showcasing Chinese and foreign well-known trademarks and brands, focusing on growth of domestic brands and telling good stories on Chinese brands. This exhibition will include the history of trademark legal system, the change of trademark administration mechanism, trademark historical archives and China’s earliest overseas registered trademarks.
CTF 2016 will invite leaders of SAIC and the relevant authorities, representatives from China Anti-Infringement and Anti-Counterfeit Innovation Strategic Alliance, the Supreme People's Court, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, General Administration of Customs, State Intellectual Property Office, local governments, Administrative authorities for industry & Commerce and Market Supervision and international organizations. Officials from overseas trademark authorities, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan, representatives of intellectual property NGOs, domestic and foreign well-known experts as well as members of CTA, guests from enterprises and trademark agencies home and abroad will also attend the event.
Finally, Mr. Wang sincerely welcome Chinese and foreign enterprises, enterprises from, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan professionals in the field of brand and trademark and friends of the press to participate in CTF 2016.
